Departure to Yellowstone National Park
10th of July, Friday, it's the day of our departure to Yellowstone National Park, where I am long waiting for a few months and we had planned it for a month, it's the day finally.
At evening of Friday, SL and I were joining with CP and SS into a car and drove toward to Yellowstone National Park, it was a long haul driving journey, where we needed to spend at least 13.5 hours in car, just for our driving journey to the destination, this is the longest ever driving journey that I ever had, honestly it was miserable for sitting in the car for 13 hours. All after all, the trip is worth for it, but I need to say thanks to CP and SL for sharing driving routine for the trip, you two are so noble to SS and I. From here, I knew that boys are always willing to do everything for they beloved girl, just like what CP did for SS :)
Also, I would like to say thanks to SS as she is so considerate for preparing so many foods for us, like cookies, sponge cake, water, hotdog buns and a lot of foods and drinks, so that we could spend our trip without lack of foods :) she is really a good food organiser, which I could never thought that we could have all these foods during our trip.
As what we planned, we departed from Orenco at 6pm, our journey made easy with direction provided from Google Earth, there is without any mistake for us to get to Yellowstone National Park, but it was unbelievable that I spent more than eight hours on I-84 highway, I think this highway is longer than South-North Highway in Malaysia :S
However, that was some special experience on our outward journey, where we didn't expect lot of petrol stations would close at night, therefore we spent sometime on petrol station hunting adventure :P
After 6 hours driving on the road, we just found that our car started facing petrolless problem and we exit from Durkee as there was a signboard tell us a petrol station, but unfortunately that we found it was closed when we reached the petrol station and we found nervous then as we were not sure if our car could travel longer to the next opened petrol station, we also were not sure if there was any petrol station opened at this late night hours.
After a short discussion at Durkee, we decided to head to Huntington to try our luck as it is the nearest city from Durkee. Unfortunately, the petrol station was closed too after we took the exit to the Huntington, and we started worry as our car couldn't travel longer to the next city, then SL suggested that we should wait until 6am for the station opened, well this was the worst choice we could do for this worst condition, else we think our car would surely stop on the highway due to run out of petrol.
While SS and I were waiting in the car, CP and SL were walking around to search for help, and they finally got information from some local people there, that is a petrol station opens 24 hours in Huntington, which is 4 miles away from the closed petrol station. For now, the only thing we could do was finger twisted and prayed that our car was abled to travel for four miles until we got to the operated petrol station.
On the way to next petrol station, we needed to reverse (as we were overshot) and stop at a one way trafic, we were so worry if our car would just die there. Luckily, we were abled to reach to the operated petrol station with lot of thrilled. From the moral of this story, we know that we should always have our petrol pumped when we could but not waiting until the last drop, especially during night time as there might not all station open at that time. For this adventure, our car was only with 0.3 gallon of gasoline left when we were successfully to get to the opened petrol station :P
Apart from petrol hunting adventure, our journey was smooth, that we were abled to get to Yellowstone National Park's west entrance before 9am (11th of July) of Wyoming time and started our trip immediately.
Here I would say that we had a perfect trip planner, there we would spend our first day from Madison to Grant Village, second day from Grant Village to Mammoth Hot Spring and our last day from North Entrance to West Entrance, there is less stop between North and West Entrances and we only needed to spend short for third day. And there we spent our first night in Grant Village inside Yellowstone NP at south and Yellowstone North Travelodge just outside of North Entrance for our second night, this accommodation arrangement enabled us to fully utilise our travel time and location during the trip.
