Las Vegas Trip – Red Rock Canyon and China Town
Beyond Las Vegas, there are a lot of other attractions, like Lake Mead , Mount Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Boulder City, Henderson, Hoover Dam, Bonnie Springs Ranch, etc. which are close to Las Vegas. If you still could go even further, you could choose Bryce Canyon, Cedar City, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Mojave Desert, Rhyolite, St. George, Zion National Park, etc.
Due to limitation of time and our body strength, therefore we only chose to go somewhere nearby Las Vegas for visiting, finally Red Rock Canyon Conservative Park and China Town were in our list of tour.
Nevada has at least three Red Rock Canyons and we chose the one of the ranges of hills that surround Las Vegas in most directions nearby by east side of Spring Mountain, it is just five miles from the edge of the city, the Red Rock Canyon is a red and yellow sandstone escarpement, the entrance fee is USD7 each vehicle for a day visit. Actually, there is a viewpoint just outside of the Conservative Park without entrance fee needs, there visitors can see the red rock canyon in far distance.
There are several stop points in Red Rock Canyon Conservative Park, which provided different view to visitors on the canyon, also visitors can did some hiking at the viewpoint. Firstly, we stopped at Calico I and did some hiking on the rock, this is really different style of hiking because they don’t really have a trail and we just climbed to anyway that we wanted through our innovation. Everywhere were sand and stone, so that we needed to pay extra attention on our every step to avoid slip on it.
However, it is actually hard to hike in desert area, especially when you couldn’t find any shelter on the trail, the weather was so hot and dry too with the hottest sun that I ever seen, people would easy to feel tired and longing for drink. Though we only hiked for half an hour, we had felt fully exhaustion once we backed to car. Therefore we decided to stop for photography without any hiking at other stop point.
The total route of Red Rock Canyon is 13 miles, we really admired to some people who tried to complete the route by cycling or running, who we met on the route. All after all, I like Red Rock Canyon because it is different and we were able to take some good pictures there.

When we were on flight, we saw a picture from China Town of Las Vegas, there is a statue from China ancient story about “Journey to the West”, five characters a monk, a monkey, a pig, a human and a horse, they travelled from China to west (actually is India) to collect a scripture for their people. Though the destination isn’t same, but US is still western country in people mind, the statue is really suitable to a China Town. Therefore, I asked SL to search for that goldish statue and I definitely wanted to be there :D
Finally, we were there and we saw some china featured building in Chinatown area, also we could clearly saw Wynn and Encore hotels from that location, there is a prefect location to take picture for them :D
