Day 8 in Hong Kong (22/3/2008 Sha Tin)
Basically, we had visited almost all the place in Hong Kong Central for the first seven days of trip, except those places at district/outskirt area and Disneyland, therefore we planned to go far for our day eight. We disscussed at the night before and we found out that we actually stil had a lot of options, but we only can choose one because of distance between those places. At last, we chose to go to Sha Tin because MS told us there is a Snoopy World and I kept in mind with this. For those who doesn't like Snoopy, you can choose Wetland Park in New Territories, it is a big relaxation place according to torism information.
We woke up in the early morning because we knew it would take us sometime to reach Sha Tin because it is located at outskirt. And, we went to Hung Hom before Sha Tin, because we also saw many stars have their concert there. Well... it actually nothing special there, except a staduim standing there, we were looking at it's concert schedule and knew David Tao would be having a concert at the night, we decided not to watch because of timing issue.
After short stay at Hung Hom, we departed to Sha Tin by train, we were first time taking train in Hong Kong, we were so happy because we had tried with MTR, tram, bus and train, we really look like countryside people :P haha...
After arrived to Sha Tin Station, we found this area actually is quite different with where we went at last few days, Sha Tin is closer to natural if compare with Hong Kong central, we could see more trees there and wider road (maybe it is less car in another word??) Unlike with central, we could get some fresh air in Sha Tin, we even could feel relaxing life while we were walking on the road, most people are riding their bycycle and we also could hear some greeting from localists. We just knew that not all Hongkies are so tension, we still can find some minority appreciate relaxation.
At first, we walked around according to the tourism booklet and we abled to see some historical building in Sha Tin and the history behind them. However, it was not sunny day, and we felt the rain was starting from small to heavy, therefore we took a stop at their Cultural Musuem.
While waiting for rain turned small, we tried to enjoy ourself in the musuem, there are many exhibition halls in the musuem, the on attracted us it the hall displays for Chinese opera customs, history and actors. And we joined for the guided tour, this helped us know more about Chinese opera and some wording for it, I personally think it is quite informative and interesting.
Actually, the musuem also provide some opera performance at weekend, but we didn't go because I don't know the dialect. However, I saw that were many old people sitting outside the cinema for waiting the show time, I think this opera was their only entertainment during their young time, this would be quite special service for them, they might be enjoy this weekend activity weekly although the show might be repetitive.
Then, I was asking myself what I would be doing after I am old? Surf net? Playing computer game? Watching oldies drama? haha... I actually don't know, maybe I should start decide now :P
After rain was getting smaller, we decided to continue walk to Snoopy World, fortunately we got an umbrella with us, we gained experience from our Phuket trip. On the way, we went by a garden which is really big and beautiful and unlike with garden in Hong Kong central, this is really so-called as garden.
Finally, we arrived to a shopping mall, there supposed to be where the Snoopy's World locate, but we couldn't see any thing relevant with Snoopy, we thought we were cheated by the tourism booklet, we guessed Snoopy's World might be a shop where sells a lot of Snoopy's decoration. Anyways, we continue to follow the roadsign which directed us going into the shopping mall.
At last, we really saw a park for Snoopy, it actually is inside a shopping mall (oh, I see, that's why we were finding this hard :)) Anyways, our hardness got paid because we really saw a lot of Snoopy's character there, I just felt like I was going into a cartoon world with all cartoon characters surrounding me.
We took a lot of pictures there, but SL refused to take pictures with Snoopy's characters, because he thinks this kind of things is for girls and kids, guys are mature and should not related with cartoon. What's a silly idea? Well... I still insisted taking photos for him, he only chose those small models, this is really not fun :P
After went to Snoopy's World, we decided to have our late lunch (actually close to dinner) in the shopping mall, there is a packed self-service system (similar with Jusco's Arena in Malaysia), SL was so naughty to take picture while I was eating :P
After lunner (lunch plus dinner), we left Sha Tin and directed to Lok Fu, our next stop was Kowloon Historical Park, it's actually a garden. After dropped at Lok Fu, we needed to walk for long way (about 20 minutes) until we reached to the park, because there is not closer MTR stop and the park is located between Lok Fu and Wong Kok stops.
While we were walking, we thought to give up to the park for several times, but we finally still reached there. After we saw the Kowloon Historical Park, we didn't regret for walking that long journey because it is really worth. This garden broke our mindset about gardens in Hong Kong central, it is really big and beautiful, totally different with other gardens.
We saw some old people were doing their activities in the park, like practising opera, chatting and others, I found how lucky they could do this in such a beautiful and historical place. We original planned just had a short stay in the garden, but we really spent a lot of time there, until I really didn't want to leave the garden but time didn't allow me to do so.
After that, we walked another 20 minutes backed to Lok Fu station and moved forward to Wong Kok, because we just found that Lang Hao Fong is located there, MS introduced me this shopping mall and she told me its special escalator, this make me list it as a must-go place, we were searching for a few days in Central and Causeway Bay but didn't find it. Luckily we saw the introduction at before we ended the trip.
However, this mall didn't give me any surprise while we were there, it is too jolted for us, so many people shop in a small space, we needed to take care with every step to avoid crash with other people, it's escalator is special but it is not suitable for shopping.
After that, we went to Woman Street for another time before we backed to hotel. This is our last full day in Hong Kong and we would be backed to Malaysia at the day after, we were feeling a little sad because our journey was ended soon and we needed to go back working again :(
