Day 2 in Bali (5/12/2008 - Cultural Discovery)
I think schedule for this day was quite nice, also with good weather, a sunny day.
In the morning, we had our breakfast in restaurant of our hotel, it was buffet style, just as normal buffet breakfast in other hotel, but I think environment is quite nice there, where has a small renovated pool.
Anan was a little bit late in morning because there was a bycycle competition during the morning in our area, we also saw many policemen guarded for the competition route. Actually I was happy to see this kind of event, but I was not that lucky to find any competitor on the road.
While we were waiting for Anan, I took chance to wander around our hotel and SL helped me ask about post office's location. This was a good chance for us took picture with our hotel.
Then, we departed to Holy Spring Water Temple at 9:30am, the whole journey would take us around 1.5 hours to reach the temple, therefore Anan planned for a few stops on the way, this would make us less tired and bored during journey. Also we could see some culturals about Balinese. We went to three Balinese cultural places, they were hand-writing Batik factory, hand-make silver shop and wood carving shop.
Among three of them, I personally prefer hand-writing Batik factory because we had more fun there and we could see process of cloth making and hand painting, there were a lot of girls sitting in the hall and helping tourists on drawing some patterns on cloth. The small pattern would need Rp5,000 and a bigger pattern would need Rp 10,000, I think it worth for price because we could see how they painted it.
Of course, I asked for help to draw a pattern (a flower and a butterfly) on my T-shirt, actually it was her offered help to me, because I thought they only draw on plain white cloth and my T-shirt wasn't totally plain. We also abled to record the drawing process, it was fast, she could complete a pattern within short period.
Well... we did look around in the batik shop, but their products are too expensive for us, which is at least USD10 for a cloth, so that we didn't buy anything, except a pattern drawing on my T-shirt, I think my T-shirt is memorable for our trip :P
After that, we also visit to hand-make silver and wood carving shops, their products are really special and beautiful, but they are too expensive to own one, therefore we didn't buy anything there. Nevertheless, we still learnt a lot of wood knowledge from Anan, he told us that are two types of wood with best quality, black wood and perfume wood, and told us how to recognise the real one.
Finally, we arrived to Holy Spring Water Temple, but I wore short on the day, therefore we need to lend a sarong at entrance and paid Rp5,000 as tips after came out from the temple. I found I was cute with wearing sarong and requested SL took a picture for me.
Anan brought us into the temple and told us legend behind temple. Once upon a time (again?? :P), that was a person claimed he was god but it was disallowed. Therefore, a General was leading his troop to challenged this person, this person lost in war and escaped. However, this person knew some black magic and poisonned the spring water, this made the General lost a lot soilders from his troop. While the General worshipped for help, that was a person broke the black magic and saved the troop, this temple was built to memorize this legend.
Anan also told us about that would bring us good luck if we could see the white fish swims in the pool and the spring water would make us look younger and SL took lot of water to wash his face :)
After visited the temple, Anan let us to walk around the market there, it was really scared me while all shop owners were asking us to buy thing from them, I even no dare to stay longer in front of a shop, just avoid they thought any intention on buying thing. We didn't buy any thing at Holy Spring Temple market because we would go to Ubud market later, as SL got some information about Ubud market, it told him that is the best place to shop.
Actually, I learnt something this day. I found that we both were kind of shy person, we are always worried to bring trouble to other people and this makes us always being in difficult without voice out our problem. Just like this day, we finished our drinks but we found nowhere to put empty bottles and SL was willing to bear with difficulties by holding two bottles with his hand. Actually, I found this was inconvenience for him, I finally couldn't stop myself from requested a bag for SL to put those bottles. All in all, Anan actually always ready to help us, just we were too shy to request offer.
From this experience, I know that sometime we were too wrong in worrying on troubling other, because maybe this is not a trouble to them, but this only would make us live unhappy.
Next, we went for lunch in Ubud, we took "smoke duck", it was a special dish in Bali and we quite liked it because it was special and delicious. Of course, we didn't forget on taking pictures with our restaurant and meal, our restaurant is Padi Prada Suite-Resto-Gallery (I am also not sure why does it name).
After lunch, we directed to Ubud Market, there were many shops, but it was not what we expected from information. At here, we didn't find any special from previous visited markets and the asking price also not as cheap as we thought, even much more expensive than previous places.
Perhaps our bargain skill wasn't good, therefore we could get any cheaper things. Anyways, we still bought some souvenir at Ubud market because this would be our last visiting market, we would go for water sport for our last two days. If we did have choice again, we wouldn't spend in Ubud Market.
After done with shopping in Ubud Market, we went to Jimbaran, it is a beach, we also past by the place where the second bomb case happened in Jimbaran, Anan told us it was another tragedy.
We walked along on Jimbaran beach and saw some fishermen were sailing to fish, I found it was special and recorded their process with our viewcam.
Jimbaran beach is kind of beautiful because it is with long coast and sandy, therefore we could walk a lot along the coastline and even were not abled to finish whole beach, but turned back for dinner when we felt hunger.
Our second day dinner at Jimbaran beach, it was BBQ seafood sharing menu, it was still a lot of choices, where we could have fish, crab, prawn, cuttlefish, osyter, clam and vegetable, it was really delicious.
We were sitting on the beach and seeing whole sunset process, this is our first sunset and kind of romantic, SL was busy on disband our crabs while I was busy to capture this sunset process with our camera and camcorder.
The beach was beautiful at the moment the sun set down and everyone looked enjoy with this scenery.
After dinner, we backed to hotel around 7:45pm and continue with our night session by walking around Kuta. Luck me because I was able to find stamps and postcard, I used to send some postcards back on my every trip.
Then, we took a walk at Kuta Beach, it was too dark, so that we only sat for short moment before continue our walk along Kuta high street, there is really happening and SL kind of like Hardrock and took a picture in front of it.
After that, we went to Matahari Supermarket looked for a converter because we just reliased Indonesia power plus is different with Malaysia.
Finally, we found cheap converter (cheaper than shop on street), it costs Rp12,600. When SL paid with Rp23,000, cashier returned change with Rp10,200 and two sweets, I found this was cute because they used sweets as a replacement of a Rp200 change, this is the change which I never seen before.
